I need some musical/moral advice...?
Tell her, just don't rub it in. I know that a couple years ago I made district honor band while my best friend chickened out a few days before auditions and didn't go. She was so happy for me when I called her and told her I'd made it, but she didn't really like to talk about it for months after that. Then, last year, she made state honor band and I didn't. Now, this I can go into with a lot more detail. I was so happy that she'd made it, and I wasn't that upset about only making alternate, because I still got to go, I just didn't get to play. Anyways, it was all she talked about for MONTHS and it drove me insane. Plus, it didn't help that she would go into what I call her "lecture mode" for anyone that would listen, talking about how much a mistake it was that she didn't try out for district that year, and how much better and more mature she'd gotten, and sort of gloating about how she'd made it. I knew she didn't mean to be mean about it, and she wasn't rubbing it in, but whenever she started talking about it, I just walked away. So, moral of the story: she'll be glad to know, and she will be happy for you if she really is your friend, but don't talk about it to excess. Wow, I hadn't realized I'd written that much. Sorry! :P
