So Im 18 and never had a girlfriend so....?

recently Ive turned 18 and have never had a girlfriend, the girls I have liked are either out of my league or I have had the feeling they like me but i didn't have the guts to ask them out ( which i regret but when it comes to that point Im just afraid they might say no and the relationship will be awkward and will not be as good friends) Im average in almost every way Im skinny but not to fit not unfit either, not attractive but i dont consider my self unattractive,not overly geeky but I love my video games,also i dont want this to make me sound depressed and emo im a normal guy for every intents and purposes and Im nice but shy until I have spent a fair amount of time with someone.... At the moment I have no one im intrested in at the moment but I really do love a good romance movie, or in my games :P and everytime ive found a girl I like its prettymuch been love at first sight. Im very mature for my age as I am alot like my Dad who has been a strict parent but for good reasons, so im not into going to nightclubs and that sort of crap im not very social either but will go out with mates. Im not looking for sympathy just tips on over coming my 'shyness" you could say and also confronting women. Thank you to those who read this all and those that give answers even the stupid ones :P
